It's Your Time to Tri!
Time to Tri one on!
You have to walk before you run, right?
You’ve joined GWTC. You are running the local races and meeting your friends for long weekend runs. Maybe a half-marathon or marathon has been checked off your bucket list and you are looking for a new challenge. If you have entertained giving triathlon a “go”, we have an event right here in Tallahassee designed to give you a taste of triathlons.
Twenty years ago, a few members of the newly formed Gulf Winds Triathlon Club met and decided that Tallahassee needed its own, hometown triathlon and Red Hills Triathlon was born. We are excited to be celebrating the 20th Red Hills Triathlon and last year added a second race, “Time to Tri.”
What is Time to Tri?
Time to Tri is a Super Sprint event consisting of 1/4 mile swim, 9.6 mile bike, and a 2 mile run. It runs simultaneously with Red Hills Triathlon. Dependent on the number of participants, Time to Tri starts as the last wave of Red Hills Triathlon. The swim course is set up inside Red Hills Triathlon’s 1/3 mile swim. The bike course is one loop of the Red Hills bike and the run is an out and back, inside the Maclay Gardens State Park. Time to Tri also shares the transition area with Red Hills Triathlon.
Time to Tri distances are designed to enable you to train indoors through the winter (with the exception of the swim) bypassing the winter-cycling clothing investment. Hop on that spin bike at the gym. If you already own a bike, an indoor trainer is a great investment, allowing you to train in your own living room! You can find an indoor trainer on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace for less than the price of a pair of padded, winter, cycling tights.
Local pools turn up the heat during the winter, so don’t be discouraged by cold water. Check talgov.com for pool locations and hours of operations.
This is your opportunity to get into the sport of triathlon without breaking the bank. It is your hometown event, right in your own backyard.
